Dear Families,

Welcome to 2018-2019 Cole RSP! I look forward to an exciting year with your child as we learn and grow together.  On the following pages you will learn about the class system. I want to provide the highest quality educational experience possible to enable all students to become contributing members of society empowered with the skills, knowledge, and values necessary to meet the challenges of a changing world.

In RSP, your child will be held to a high standard and is expected to be organized, responsible, and motivated.  Effort and discipline will definitely drive your child’s success in RSP. To challenge each student and provide ongoing rigor, I will integrate a variety of strategies into our daily curriculum.  Furthermore, your child will learn the 7 habits of a successful leader and ultimately demonstrate them in their daily lives!

I would like to encourage you to contact me at any time with questions, concerns, or comments you might have regarding your child’s experience in my class.  I will be using Class Dojo as our behavior management and communication system. Class Dojo is a free app that will allow me to make group announcements, or to contact you directly. It also is a behavior management system that will be used for rewards/consequences. The app keeps personal contact information private, phone numbers are not exchanged between users in the group.  To join my Class Dojo you can download the app and enter the parent code : PHG5W7U6C. Classroom Behavior Expectations:

In my class there are expectations that will be incorporated into the classroom management system: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be a Leader.  The students and I will discuss the “big ideas” of these expectations and how they apply throughout the entire school, and if not followed they lead to natural consequences, referrals, notes or phone calls home.  By implementing these standards daily, students will learn and internalize lifelong responsible behavior. Procedures will be introduced, taught, modeled, and practiced heavily the first few weeks of school until they become routines.  If students follow the routines efficiently, there should be less disciplining and more of a positive learning environment.  Below is a detailed description of our class management system.


CLASS DOJO:

Students will be awarded points for following class expectations/procedures each day.  These points will purchase them the opportunity to select an item from the class treasure box or earn a class incentive.  You may contact me directly through the messaging feature on the app if you have questions regarding your child’s behavior or performance in my class.  Students can also lose points if not following expectations after a verbal prompt. Failure to follow classroom expectations will result in loss of points, a referral, and phone call home, and detention.  Severe behavior will result in a high level referral and the student will be sent directly to the principal’s office.

I will utilize Google Classroom.  Many of our daily assignments will be posted and students are welcome to continue working on any work that is not complete.  Using Google Classroom, I can post assignments and students can turn in their work digitally. Students can also comment below a posted assignment if they have any questions.  I will provide each student with their login information to take home. If a student is absent, Google Classroom is a great way to get digital copies of assignments and see what was missed.



IEP Meetings:

Notices for IEP Meetings will be sent home with your student.  I will also send you a private electronic message letting you know a meeting is being scheduled.  Please confirm your attendance by signing the form and returning it to me . IF you are unable to make it and need to reschedule, please indicate it on the form so we can discuss.


Media Release Form:

Our classroom is a demonstration classroom in the district.  This means that we will often have visitors whose purpose is to observe my teaching.  All demonstration classrooms are required to have a student media release form on file.  By signing the form, you are granting permission to use audio, or visual materials to increase public awareness of education programs through mass media, displays, brochures, Internet, audio-visual presentations. Please sign the form and return to me at your soonest convenience.

Donations are always welcomed and appreciated, below is a list of items that are helpful to have at the beginning of the school year and throughout the year.

  • Clorox Bleach Wipes
  • Baby Wipes
  • Kleenex
  • Black Dry Erase Markers
  • Post-It Notes (any size, any color)
  • Snacks for our snack drawer
  • Items for the treasure box
